Change is Good . . . Did I Just Say That?

Since I was in high school preparing for my first overseas missions trip my life verse has been “so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,” Colossians 1:10 NIV

Little did I know when I picked out this verse in high school that it would help me mark so many important days, events, and changes in my life. If you read the verse above carefully there are three main points . . .

1. Live a life worthy of God.

2. Bearing fruit in every good work.

3. Growing in the knowledge of God,

Today we said “goodbye” to our church home for 13 years. First Alliance Church is our family and it is hard to say goodbye to family. We came to First Alliance to fill a call God was putting on our lives to fill a position as worship leader over 13 years ago,we were looking to live a life worthy of God, hoping to bear fruit at First Alliance and knowing we would grow in the knowledge of God with this group of believers.

First Alliance helped us learn for the first time what it meant to be in ministry at a church. It is the place where four of our boys were dedicated to the Lord and learned to love church. It is a place where we have laughed, cried, and then laughed some more. So many lessons have been learned on how to live a life worthy of God.

Fruit has been born. We have seen four of our five children come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ at First Alliance. We have been involved in Vacation Bible School where countless children have come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.

We have grown in the knowledge of God. We have been challenged by Sunday School, our Small Group, pastors, and our friends to be the kind of Christians God wants us to be.

Since we have been challenged to live this way, when Jeffrey felt the Lord calling him to get back into leading worship we could not ignore the Lord’s voice. Jeffrey accepted the call just this past Tuesday to serve at Charlton United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, Pa. My prayer is that we will be able to “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,”

Change is good . . . when God calls us and we listen to His call!
